Everything You Wanted to Know About Quant Recruiting in 2023 But Were Afraid to Ask: trends in recruiting, quant skills in demand in 2023, career changes, compensation trends, and more! Hear from a diverse set of quantitative practitioners and recruiting experts, including Two Sigma, Clifton Global and Korn Ferry.

The session is for anyone interested in quant career and hiring trends. A special note for active job seekers: the event will be held virtually and with full participant anonymity during live Q&A. Casey Wang

Managing Director, Head of Systematic Strategies Oversight in Risk Management, Two Sigma

Casey is a Managing Director and head of Systematic Strategies Oversight in Risk Management at Two Sigma. Since joining Two Sigma in 2014, her work contributes to both operational and market risk management. Prior to joining Two Sigma, Casey worked in Morgan Stanley for eight years, in a variety of engineering and risk management roles, including in Morgan Stanley Prime Brokerage, Counterparty Valuation Adjustment, and Corporate Treasury. Casey holds a Master of Science in Computational Finance from Carnegie Mellon University, a Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo and is a CFA charter holder.

Orestis Tsinalis

Head of Data and Machine Learning, Upshot

Orestis is the Head of Data & Machine Learning at Upshot. Tsinalis is responsible for leading Upshot’s growing data and machine learning teams, as well as improving the company’s ML models to deliver real-time NFT appraisals for the market. Prior to joining Upshot, Tsinalis served as Head of Quantitative Research and as a Quantitative Trader at GHCO – one of the fastest-growing liquidity providers specializing in ETFs. While at GHCO, Tsinalis built and scaled pricing models for the company’s global ETF book, developed new strategies for trading crypto ETPs, coins and futures, and built the ML infrastructure for backtesting high-frequency trading strategies. Tsinalis also served as the Principal Data Scientist at abrdn, a top-five UK asset manager with over $600b in AUM. There, he led the company’s central Data Science team, successfully built out natural language processing-based signals, ML models for accounting fraud detection and company fundamentals prediction, and NLP-based searches for news, transcripts and reports. He received his Ph.D. and MSc in computer science from Imperial College London.

 

James Bailey

Founding Partner, Clifton Global

 James is a Founding Partner at Clifton Global, conducting senior executive search assignments across the domains of Quantitative Research, Data Science, Risk Management, Portfolio Construction and Portfolio Management. The majority of his placements are buy-side centric, in particular assisting global multi-strategy hedge funds and proprietary trading firms. Prior to founding Clifton Global, James worked for a boutique financial services led executive firm, where he focused on international mandates across Quantitative Research, Data Science, Risk Management and Portfolio Construction. Before this, he worked in Egon Zehnder International’s London office for where he concentrated on Risk Management placements and wider functional positions across financial services. James received a BA (Hons) in History from Leeds University.

 

Deepali Vyas

Global Head of FinTech, Payments and Crypto Practice, Korn Ferry

Deepali serves as Global Head of FinTech, Payments and Crypto Practice at Korn Ferry based in the firm’s New York office. She also serves as the Global Leader of the Applied Intelligence (AI, Data Science) Practice.  Deepali brings more than 20 years of c-suite executive search and board experience.  Her search practice spans financial services, technology, industrial, healthcare and consumer retail industries. She has advised clients on organizational design, strategy and assessments across the data ecosystem, including: artificial intelligence, data science, and machine

learning. She is also a well published thought leader on topics such as digital assets, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, innovation, digital transformation, and talent in data and analytics. Deepali frequently contributes to media outlets including Bloomberg, FundFire, CNBC, Business Insider and Forbes. Deepali has been featured as Business Insiders’ “Top 10 Global Headhunters in FinTech.” Deepali is deeply passionate about diversity and inclusion, partnering with startups like

Correlation One on diversity initiatives that offer data science training to the Black and Latinx communities. She has been an advocate for women in STEM careers, sponsoring annual the Women’s Summit in Data Science (DS4A).  Prior to joining Korn Ferry, Deepali was sector leader for Global Markets, Quant & Analytics at a large executive search firm. Her collection of search work has been on behalf of Fortune 500, venture-backed, and private-equity-owned companies. Functional search experience includes chief data officer, chief digital officer, chief analytics officer, data

science, artificial intelligence, CEO, CTO, Chief Product Officers, machine learning and general management roles.  Prior to that role, Deepali ran a boutique executive search firm that she founded, where she worked primarily in investment management and quantitative strategy recruiting and developed expertise in the electronic and algorithmic trading arenas.  Deepali holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Colorado. She is an advisory board member of Correlation One (a data science assessments and training technology start up), as well as Rutgers University Big Data Program.
